Access to Lightmoor is via the “Forest Products” track; take the B4226 Speech House Road south-west from Cinderford, take the first tarmac road on the left going up the hill. Be careful, the speed bumps are sizeable, and you may encounter works traffic from the woodworks. There is a good size car park on the right, before entering the woodworks.
Access to the fishery is up a slope, past a Forestry Gate.
Like most of the Club’s waters, Lightmoor Pools are remnants from the forest’s industrial past. Lightmoor colliery, the remnants of which can be seen from the southern side of the larger lake, used the lake as a water-holding facility for steam-driven equipment. Surprisingly, the lake was also once a military small-arms shooting range.
There are two waters at Lightmoor; the small pool close to the car park can be fished and it is popular for training sessions and with families fishing together. See the photo further down this page.
It has a good stock of roach and rudd, a few tench and a few larger carp, so be careful when fishing “too light”. Keepnets are not currently permitted at Lightmoor.
The larger lake is a very popular venue; there are some 35 pegs/platforms around the water, but please note that fishing from the far (wooded) bank is prohibited.
Pegs close to the car park are suitable for disabled anglers or wheelchair users.
As the larger water is a match venue always check match fixtures on the website, Facebook or noticeboard before making arrangements.
Please note that keepnets are currently banned in the larger pond; this may change but until further notice please do not use keepnets except in organised matches.
All members are asked to be especially vigilant at this location; poaching and fish theft has been rife. Please ask to see other angler’s permits, and if you suspect anyone to be fishing without a permit please call 101. Fish theft IS theft, it’s a crime, and the Police should always be informed.
Floating baits of any description are banned, as on all Club waters.
